THE CHALLENGE
The Client’s instructions were clear. ‘Make the building functional, straight-forward and beautiful’. The Operations Building is constructed on the Historic Castle Heights Campus in the heart of Lebanon, TN. As such the intent was to make the building respond to the adjacent historic buildings while standing on it’s own merits. The exterior massing recalls the McFadden Auditorium which, sadly was demolished in 2014. The tall curtain walls of the south and north facades as well as the entry portico all reflect the historic auditorium building. The building features a 50 kw solar array which along with substantial daylight harvesting and lighting controls produces more electrical power than is consumed by the total lighting load of the building.
